If you have attempted to sign up to get on the California Legal Update subscriber e-mail list, but still aren’t getting it (and are therefore reading someone else’s copy right now), it is not because your request has been purposely ignored. I have a boilerplate response I send to everyone on an individual basis who asks to sign up. With rare exception (e.g., requests from foreign countries with questionable motives [e.g., Russia], or others who feel the need to use a profane or otherwise tasteless e-mail address; I’ve gotten them both), no one who expresses an interest is turned down. If you’ve received my welcome notice, then your name is on my Update subscriber list. If you asked to be signed up and did not receive my boilerplate welcome, then yes, I screwed up, and somehow missed your request. Please try again. But if you’ve made such a request, got my boilerplate welcome response, and still aren’t getting the Update, then, typically, the Update notifications are either going to the spam file in your computer or your agency is blocking it (although there may also be other problems). This is likely because my publisher sends out the Update notifications (telling you that a new Update is available, with a link to it) in what is called a “blast” notification (there being over 10,000 addressees in the Update subscriber list). Many agencies and some personal computers automatically assume that this is nothing more than spam and weed it out without you ever seeing it. So if you’re not receiving the Update pursuant to your own request, check with your agency and/or into your own spam file and see if you can’t fix the problem yourself. (Merely adding “info@legalupdate.com” to your browser’s contact list will often solve the problem.) If this doesn’t work, then let me know and we’ll see if it isn’t something we can fix on this end.
